I have for sale a Gym Quality StartTrac Pro Treadmill that I purchased used from the Dallas JCC about 4 years ago. I suspect it is about 7-8 yrs old.
I added a dedicated Treadmill Desk – TrekDesk, to the treadmill. This gives one the ability to do multiple activities on the treadmill such as viewing movies, doing limited computer work, paperwork as well as providing an additional place to hold beverages. The desk has a TON of space for a treadmill desk and is easily adjustable in height and fits the Star Trac Treadmill well.
The treadmill goes as fast as you could want, I think 10 mph and incline goes up to 15% grade. This model has a monster 5HP 3 phase induction motor that is controlled by a converter of the 120VAC to 3 phase going into a VFD (variable frequency drive) controller to give quick, efficient control. It is built in the US in California. It uses regenerative power generation into a resistor bank to slow the belt when needed. I opened it up once and was confused about why they had a 3 phase motor and it took me a while to figure out that they had done such an amazing design as to use this single to three phase technology that is normally used on precision machines like lathes or cranes.
It’s heavy, but as such is very stable yet has a ‘soft’ bounce to the surface to keep it atraumatic. I frequently run barefoot on it for an hour or more without any issues. The front button panel and display had one button that was giving me trouble a little over a year ago and I purchased an entire new panel that and the display that solved the problem. Otherwise, never a problem with this machine. It is a standard machine in many gyms as as such there are many references to adjustments and service such as changing the belt and the engineers in California are really helpful. By the way, the display / button panel was a $350 part from the company but I found it for something like $100 on ebay. Belts are about $100 but are really sturdy. The belt looks good and I doubt it will need replacement before perhaps 5000 miles. I replaced it when I got the treadmill but in retrospect did not need to. I did not adjust the rear roller angle properly and as a result, about 1/4″ of the belt rubbed on the frame for a while and The right side of the belt is a little worn but the roller is now adjusted correctly and the tiny bit of belt wear on the edge is of no consequence.
Here are some ‘comps’ of the treadmill and desk currently on craigslist.
